Is Google a SaaS company?
Is Google a SaaS company?
Software as a Service (SaaS) has become increasingly common in recent times as an approach for businesses to access and utilize software with minimal upfront costs and maintenance. But is Google a SaaS company? The response is both yes and no.
Google provides a multitude of services, and some of them are regarded as SaaS. Google Apps, for instance, is a suite of cloud-based applications that businesses can utilize to manage their operations and collaborate with colleagues. Additionally, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a platform of cloud-based services such as compute, storage and analytics. All of these services are viewed as SaaS since they are hosted in the cloud and accessed over the internet.
But not all of Google’s services are SaaS. Google’s search engine, for example, is not considered SaaS because it is hosted on Google’s own servers and does not need customers to purchase or install any software. Similarly, Google’s Android operating system is not considered SaaS because it is installed directly onto a device and does not require an internet connection.
In general, Google is a mix of both SaaS and non-SaaS services. It offers a range of services, some of which are regarded as SaaS, while others are not. This is sensible for a business as big as Google, which needs to provide a variety of services in order to remain competitive in the market.
Nevertheless, Google’s focus on SaaS services is increasing. The company has been investing heavily in its cloud platform, GCP, and has been broadening its suite of cloud-based services. Furthermore, Google has been investing in artificial intelligence, a technology that is becoming more and more used in SaaS products.
In conclusion, Google is a mix of both SaaS and non-SaaS services. Although its concentration has been shifting towards SaaS, it still provides a range of services that are not viewed as SaaS. Finally, whether or not Google is thought of as a SaaS company depends on the specific services that it is offering at any given time.
